This proud Worcesterite via Grafton Hill grew up in a double decker with her mother, (a former teacher) father (retired Fire Fighter), and an older sister. After graduating from Holy Name High, I attended Worcester State University, majoring in Nursing. I have been working at UMASS in various locations for the last 15+ years and have truly enjoyed becoming a part of this small community of healthcare workers. I continued to further my education in maternal health after being motivated by my own experiences with motherhood. I am a Certified Lactation Coach, Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator. Through For Babies’ Best, I have begun working within the community to support growing families through dynamic perinatal support and education. I shifted nursing specialties and currently work labor and delivery at Memorial and at Worcester Community Midwifery. You might have seen me tabling at a community event and educating my neighbors in reproductive and maternal health. Next spring, I will be traveling to Ghana with Miracle Chapel Int./ My Health Matters to provide health screenings. Of all of my titles, “Mom” is the one I am most proud of. I currently reside in Auburn with my family. I would describe my days as filled with the “joyous chaos” of raising three sons (ages 11, 6, and 2) and their pets (an Airdale Terrier, Ball Python, and Bearded Dragon). Catch me if you can.
Q: Please tell us about your current career and what you love most about what you do?
I currently work as Registered Nurse and Birth Worker of various hats. I’ve always been told I talk a lot and have used that talent to meet people where they are, learn of various walks of life through them while educating a growing family and hopefully improving their experience and birth outcomes.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Worcester, and what is your favorite dish?
I love that the restaurant scene reflects the city’s rich diversity! I don’t have a favorite, but I do frequent Bahnans (grape leaves, hommus), Choose and Mix (bibimbap with spicy chicken and extra hot paste), and The Boynton (Buffalo Chicken Pizza with the dill sauce)
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve ever met?
My maternal grandfather Joseph Jolly. He was always planning his next move. It could be anything from a new business venture to travel plans across the globe. He was an engineer and true renaissance man who changed the lives of many people close to him. I still find myself wondering what his advice would be.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I love traveling! On the long list of locations I hope to go to, I would choose Japan. I would love to learn more about the culture and history. I look forward to sightseeing and eat great food.
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Prince and The Revolution
Q: What is your best advice?
I always tell my children “Tomorrow is a new day!” I want them to realize that there is always an opportunity to try your best, achieve your goals and to start fresh with a new sunrise.
Q: What is one of the top three items on your Bucket List?
I used to play the cello at the Joy of Music Program. I want to play music again and become a proficient cellist.
Q: What current/former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Worcester?
Building 19 or Spags.
Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative with whom would you love to have lunch? Why?
Venus Standard. I recently attended the AABC (American Association of Birth Centers) conference in Tuscon, AZ and met her there. She is a trailblazer within the world of maternal health and midwifery. I did not have enough time to listen to her experience and absorb some of her knowledge that she shared.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I want to be a thriving resource that provides perinatal support and education at a local birthing center or community-based location.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you, even your friends or family.
One of my favorite things to do is to watch the sunrise. In that moment I feel very introspective, humbled and peaceful.
Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Big Hugs, Great Food, Rest
Q: If a motion picture was made of your life, what actor/actress would you choose to play you?
Tiffany Haddish. She is someone who is funny but also seems lighthearted. I enjoy a good laugh and would describe myself as an easy-going person.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Worcester?
I think Worcester has a lot of unique history.
Q: What is your favorite smell?
Patchouli or Sandalwood
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My kids. I hope that I can be a great role model for them and with them create endless phenomenal memories.
