I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. I moved to Worcester 9 years ago and fell in love with the city. As an immigrant, I always look for ways to feel a connection to my home country which is why I co-founded Guardians of Traditions, a cultural organization that creates entertaining and culturally relevant events that reflect the diversity of the community. Through the organization, I found that it is important to demonstrate that is quite possible to retain our cultural identity and still be part of the community. I started it as a Dominican organization created as a way to connect with my roots, but with each event, I learned that even though we’re all different, we do share things in common. We all want to fit in, but are afraid to look beyond what’s in front of us.
